Toms River Police Department Youth Camp
The third annual Toms River Police Department Youth Camp, July 10-14 2017. The camp is a way for the department to give back to the community and give the children an inside look at law enforcement. Campers get to ride in police cars, utilize specialized police equipment, learn self-defense tactics, and physical agility. They also have exposure to the motorcycle unit, EMS Ambulance, SWAT team, fire suppression vehicles, obstacle course as well as a field trip to the Ortley Beach Lifeguard station.
Bigs in Blue
The Toms River Police Department has embraced the first in Ocean County “Bigs in Blue” Program. The “Bigs in Blue” is a national program focused on building relationships between law enforcement and the communities they serve through a one to one mentoring relationship. The Toms River Police Department wants to show the community, especially the children that they are here to protect and help them. They also recognize that prevention is critical with the youth in the community and that a positive role model in their lives will make a difference.
The 27th annual Vest-a-Cop fundraiser, where officers serve as waiters at the local Pizza Hut in order to raise money for bullet-proof vests. Other activities at the event include a prize raffle, a dunk tank, and face-painting for the kids.
Jingle Bells Run
The 19th annual Jingle Bells Run, hosted by the Toms River Police Foundation. Events include a Kiddie Dash with Santa Claus, a 1-mile run, and a 5k through downtown Toms River. The proceeds are for scholarships to local High School TEAM and INTERACT seniors. There is also a Det. Mark Catalano Memorial Scholarship for High School students who are majoring in a Law Enforcement career.
